In this modern time, we are exposed to many toxins and pollutants in the environment – in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and the products we use on our skin. We use more pesticides and herbicides to grow and harvest our food. The advances of science have led to the use of man-made chemicals in our food and personal care products, many of which have not been studied adequately for long term effects on our health. We eat more fast food and processed refined food than ever. Yes, this is meant to scare you, but just a little!
The Good News
The body is naturally equipped to handle most of these toxins. However, if the toxic burden is too great, overtime the body can become weakened and harmed leading to symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, headache, sleep difficulty, pain and even chronic illness. Due to genetic individuality, some people are more sensitive to certain pollutants and chemicals in the environment and are at higher risk of developing chronic health issues.
A good diet, abundant in health promoting vegetables and fruits is imperative for protection from developing health issues from toxic burden. But let’s be honest, most of our diets are less than ideal. So in this case, doing a cleanse 1-2 times per year is very wise! Cleansing must be followed by a healthy diet however, you cannot go back to your old ways. Otherwise your progress during the cleanse will be quickly undone.
