Joe's mom recently needed a dose of antibiotics to counter a bacterial infection. A week later, another infection occurred, this one due to the fact that antibiotics not only kill invading bad bacteria, but also can kill good bacteria that live in our bodies. A nurse suggested she add a probiotic yogurt to her breakfasts to help those good bacteria thrive.
While studies continue on the affect probiotics have on our bodies, here's an excerpt of an article found on the Mayo Clinic Website:
Although more research is needed, there's encouraging evidence that probiotics may help:
- Treat diarrhea, especially following treatment with certain antibiotics.
- Prevent and treat vaginal yeast infections and urinary tract infections.
- Treat irritable bowel syndrome.
- Reduce bladder cancer recurrence.
- Speed treatment of certain intestinal infections.
- Prevent and treat eczema in children.
- Prevent or reduce the severity of colds and flu.

As many of you may remember, Joe often performs on local stages in cabarets and musicals, and on Friday night, May 2nd, he is appearing in a lead role in Next To Normal at Theatre on Main in Oconomowoc. The show, running for 3 weekends, is one of only 8 musicals in history to win the Pulitzer Prize for drama.
Here's from Theatre on Main's website:
“Next to Normal” tells the story of a mother, Diana Goodman, who struggles with bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. This contemporary musical is an emotional powerhouse that addresses such issues as grieving a loss, ethics in modern psychiatry, and suburban life. With provocative lyrics and a thrilling score, this musical shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family’s world intact. A deeply moving piece of theatre that provides a wonderful opportunity for performers to explore dramatic material and showcase vocal talents with an energetic pop/rock score.
