What's New for August?
There's a lot going on this August at GHM. Check in with the managers of each department as they share interesting food news, upcoming specials, and more! This month, hear about what's fresh and local in produce, how you can send the kids back to school ready to learn, and how to send greetings the eco-friendly way!
Produce: What would you like to see precut?
Produce is now full swing into local product. Most items have been a week
or two late this year, and some are finishing up a week or two early (like asparagus) as well. We will have West Stars fresh sweet corn by around the 1st of August. Prices are slightly higher than last year, but quality remains very good. The new(er) precut items are proving to be a hit. We regularly sell through the cole slaw mix, kabobs, sliced peppers and diced onions. We are looking to continue to expand our variety of what we precut. Anyone with an idea for something new/different is more than welcome to let us know. We'd love to try anything new. We are still bringing in imported Apples; pricing is high and the availability is sporadic. In another 6-8 weeks, domestic will begin to harvest and prices will come down. Cherries, grapes, melons and the stone fruit are at their summer peak. Expect this to continue through mid to late August.

Deli/Café: August is National Sandwich Month!
August is National Sandwich Month and we have an excellent variety of grilled and cold sandwiches made right when you order. Vegetarian and vegan options including "The Very Vegan" and "Feta Walnut" are popular favorites. Gluten intolerant? All of our sandwiches can be made on Gluten Free Bread or Wraps. Each comes a freshly made side salad and fruit. Already a sandwich expert? We carry the Boar's Head Natural Product line, free of all artificial flavors and preservatives and full of flavor. Pair those with you're favorite natural and organic cheese and lunch is served.

Meat: Don't miss wild salmon season!
As the summer is heating up this month so is the selection in our seafood. If you've been impressed with our new oven and grill ready seafood, stop in and say thank you to Mary - she's the creative mind behind it all! Mark your calenders for August 5th, it's National Oyster Day and we'll have plenty on hand to celebrate. There will also be plenty of wild salmon as the sockeye season is upon its closing weeks. Before the end of the month, sort all your recipes you can add bacon to ( all of them ), because the 31st is National Bacon Day. Mmmm bacon!!

We recently brought in a new line of greeting cards called "Cardthartic" that are proudly made in the USA using soy ink and are made on recycled paper. Stop by and see all of the fun designs!
